Soldiers of German Air Force detachment that are currently in charge of NATO Air-policing mission in the Baltic States have erected a cross in the Hill of Crosses (Siauliai) on behalf of unit.
The ceremony was observed by German colleagues from the Lithuanian AF Air Base. The cross was hallowed by Maj. Virginijus Veilentas, the Chaplain of Lithuanian AF. By erecting the cross Germans expressed respect to local traditions and culture.
German soldiers brought to this ceremony a teddy-bear – their talisman of luck – too. The teddy-bear dressed in a German AF pilot‘s uniform is a part of a charity project. Later on it will be sold on an auction and money received will be donated to raise welfare of children‘s home.
