The Chancellor informed the President about the internal political situation in Germany after the unexpected resignation of the Federal President of Germany, Horst Koehler, and assured that she would keep the promise to visit Lithuania later this year.
The President of Lithuania said she understood the situation in Germany and wished the Chancellor every success in solving internal political issues.
President Dalia Grybauskaitė informed briefly the Chancellor about the Baltic Sea States Summit successfully held in Vilnius. The Lithuanian and German leaders also discussed their upcoming meeting at the Brussels European Summit scheduled later this June and the need for EU actions to stabilise the economic and financial situation in Europe.
“Germany is among the most important partners for Lithuania within the European Union and NATO. I hope we will continue to develop our bilateral cooperation and actively make joint efforts to turn the Baltic Sea Region into one of the most prosperous regions in Europe,” President Dalia Grybauskaitė said over the phone to the German Chancellor.
