President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus observed the international military exercise Strong Shield 2008.

As underlined by the President, such exercises are the best demonstration of military preparedness to respond, in a prompt and focused manner, to emerging threats.

“Military exercises are the best test of preparedness of Lithuanian soldiers to meet dangers, together with their Estonian and Latvian counterparts. At the same time, they are the best way to concert actions in defending Lithuania or any other country. I am happy to see the progress made by our soldiers and the concerted actions of international forces,” President Adamkus said.

The Strong Shield 2008, international complex battalion-sized military exercise, organized for the third time already was held for over one thousand military personnel from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Great attention was paid to training and assessment of the 1st Battle Group and the Baltic Battalion before their mission in NATO Response Force in 2010.
