On 23 July in Stockholm, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė and Swedish Minister for European Affairs Cecilia Malmström discussed priorities of Sweden’s EU Presidency: promotion of economy and employment, fight against climate change.
During the Presidency, Sweden also intends to dedicate a lot of attention to other goals: it will aim to solve issues related to the coming into force of the Treaty of Lisbon, will seek to endorse a long-term Stockholm Programme on justice and home affairs, will aim at the adoption of the EU strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and at strengthening the role of the EU in the world.
During the meeting, A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė voiced support to the priorities of Sweden’s EU Presidency, especially highlighting the importance of smooth implementation of the Baltic Energy Interconnection Plan and the strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.
The Vice-Minister also drew Swedish Minister’s attention to the necessity to effectively implement the EU’s Eastern Partnership and to mark the 70th anniversary of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact at the EU level.
