Latvian President Vaira Vika-Freiberga will arrive in Russia to attend the Victory Day celebrations on May 9.
"I have reaffirmed my participation and it makes no sense to give it up," Ms. Vike-Freiberga told the Ekho Moskvy radio station.
According to her, today she talked with the group for the visit preparations on the phone. The group is currently in Moscow. Members of the group confirmed that everything proceeds in a constructive, polite and successful atmosphere, she noted.
"Latvians are not hostile to Russians, even those who suffered most from the Soviet times," she said.
Latvia feels no hostility towards Russia, Vaira Vika-Freiberga emphasized.
Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus promised to make a decision on his participation in the Victory Day celebrations next week after a session with the government and parliament.
In his words, his trip to Moscow was widely discussed by political analysts and public figures, which laid the foundation of his future decision.
