Lithuanian Ambassador presented credentials to the President of Bulgaria

On 16 October, Lithuanian ambassador Arūnas Vinčiūnas presented credentials to the President of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov.

During the meeting ambassador A.Vinčiūnas stressed, that relations between Lithuania and Bulgaria, which date back to the times of Vytautas and Jogaila, are now mostly related to the activities of both countries in the European neighbourhood  states and also in the structures of the European Union and NATO.

Lithuania and Bulgaria also share common challenges of European energy and security policies.The president of Bulgaria G.Parvanov was glad about the strengthening political and economic relations between the two countries and thanked Lithuania for the support of Bulgaria’s accession to the EU.

“The success of Lithuanian businessmen in Bulgaria is of great importance to the development of relations between the two states”, -ambassador A.Vinčiūnas  emphasized. Ambassador also noted that the anticipated visit of the president of Bulgaria next year will coincide with important time for Lithuania – the celebration of the millennium of Lithuania’s name.

Lithuania and Bulgaria established diplomatic relations in 1924.Ambassador A.Vinčiūnas is the first Lithuanian Ambassador to Bulgaria, residing in this country.
