Lithuanian Head of State Vytautas Landsbergis in Tokyo as keynote speaker on the Lithuanian contribution to freedom and unification in Europe

In view of Europe celebrating 20 years since the end of the Cold War, a symposium on this theme will be organized by Aoyama Gakuin University on Sunday, November 22, supported by the Delegation of the European Commission to Japan. Professor Vytautas Landsbergis, outstanding Lithuanian politician and cultural figure, is invited as a keynote speaker and will deliver a report on the Lithuanian contribution to European freedom and unification in 1988-1989.

Vytautas Landsbergis has played the key role in the Lithuanian movement for freedom, and became the first Head of State after Lithuania regained its independence. Since 2004, he serves as a Member of the European Parliament.
Apart from political activities, Vytautas

 Landsbergis has gained recognition as a leading researcher and performer of the oevre of the Lithuanian composer, painter, literati and photographer  Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1872-1911). Professor Landsbergis’ monograph “Čiurlionis. Time and Content“ which surveys the life and unique creative world of the artist was published in the Japanese language by Young Tree Press last year.
