Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas met with Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Foreign Minister of Finland
Alexander Stubb, who came to Tbilisi and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the European Union presidency of France Bernard Kouchner.
Minister P.Vaitiekūnas told the EU colleagues about the present critical situation in Georgia, which kept further aggravating.
P.Vaitiekūnas highlighted that the EU had to maintain a strong and united position regarding the aggression against Georgia and to employ all leverage on signing the ceasefire agreement between Russia and Georgia as soon as possible.
During the conversation with Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister of Finland A.Stubb and Minister of Foreign Affairs of France B.Kouchner stressed that the main goal should be to reach a ceasefire in Georgia as soon as possible, because civilians continue to perish and the country is being devastated.
On 11 August, Minister of Foreign Affairs P.Vaitiekūnas departed from Tbilisi to Vilnius.
Minister appointed Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Laimonas Talat-Kelpša as a special envoy for the resolution of crisis situation in Georgia. He stays in Georgia.
