Lithuanian and Latvian presidents will observe coastal exercises of special operations forces

Today, August 20, Wednesday, President Valdas Adamkus and President Valdis Zatlers of Latvia observe the Balts Will international coastal exercises of special operations forces.

Lithuanian and Latvian presidents will watch special operations, inspect military equipment and installations, and participate in a joint press conference.

Taking part in the training exercise are Lithuanian and Latvian special operations forces. The exercise, which started last week, has the objective of enhancing close cooperation between Lithuanian and Latvian special operations forces, improving the exchange of experience, refining the interoperability of NATO counterterrorist units, reconciling communications, combat tactics and other crucial issues, and preparing for the exercises of special operations forces of NATO member states in Romania due this autumn.

Balts Will employs air and naval forces in support of completing and supplying counterterrorist operations. Particular attention is paid to air and naval operations.

On Wednesday Valdas Adamkus and Valdis Zatlers will also attend the opening ceremony of Sakret Lietuva Ltd – a constructional compounds factory in the mid-Lithuanian town of Kėdainiai. The factory is the largest Latvian capital investment in Lithuania.
