Lithuania's Foreign Minister congratulates the first EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs ang Security Policy

On 20 November, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas congratulated Catherine Ashton who had just been elected as European Union‘s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

Minister V.Ušackas wished C.Ashton to lead the diplomacy of the European Union with a strategic vision and tactics which would be most suitable to express the interests and needs of the EU states and its citizens in the 21st century of globalization.

“Lithuania is ready to contribute to the creation of European External Action Service with its human resources, experience and insights”, head of Lithuania’s diplomacy said upon starting his official visit to Armenia.

According to the Treaty of Lisbon, the head of EU’s foreign policy is elected for the term of five years. The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy will chair the meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council, will hold the post of Vice-President of the European Commission and will be the head of European External Action Service that is being currently created.
