Minister V.Ušackas acquainted the Ambassador with the programme of the meeting of foreign ministers of the Baltic States and Benelux countries, which is scheduled for October in Lithuania, and expressed belief that the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Yves Leterme, would be able to attend the meeting.
Ambassador F.Cumps thanked the Minister for cooperation and stressed that it was necessary to continue making every endeavour of promoting Lithuania and other Baltic States in Belgium.
Belgian Ambassador is leaving Lithuania in August, and in September he will be succeeded by Serge Wauthier, current counsellor to Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Public Health Laurette Onkelinx.
Lithuania is actively developing relations with two regions of Belgium: the French-speaking Wallonia and the Dutch-speaking Flemish Region.
On 29 June, a renewed cooperation programme between Lithuania and the Flemish Region of Belgium was signed, which allows for closer relations in trade, education, innovations and transport, agriculture, health care, culture and other areas, as well as exchange of students and scientific researchers.
