Lithuania delegates Deputy Director of Lithuania’s National Police School professor Alvydas Šakočius to the Police Advisory Group of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to Kyrgyzstan.
Selected by the OSCE Secretariat, A.Šakočius has been appointed as a Special Adviser to the Head of the OSCE Police Advisory Group to Kyrgyzstan.
In response to the Kyrgyz request for help to resolve political crisis in the country, on 22 July 2010 in Vienna, 56 OSCE Member States decided to send OSCE Police Advisory Group to Kyrgyzstan for the period of four months.
The 52-member Police Advisory Group of police officers from the OSCE will contribute to the regulation of the situation in the country. Police Advisory Group aims to help the Kyrgyz government to restore public order, to reduce ethnic tensions and strengthen institutions that assure public order in the country.
Participation in the OSCE Police Advisory Group to Kyrgyzstan will be a unique experience for Lithuania as the country prepares for the OSCE Chairmanship in 2011.
