September 8, Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė will attend celebrities of sanctification of a monument put up in Gruzdiškės Hill (Raseinių Township) for victims of resistance fights.
In 1944 -1953 people from Raseiniai County and others were jailed in Raseiniai prison for opposing the Soviet regime. Members of NKVD would throw bodies of fighters and partisans tortured to death into trenches blown up during war and would bury them. When activities of Lithuanian Reform Movement began, deportees, state prisoners, and former partisans initiated marking of the place with crosses in 1989, and in 2009 the monument was built by Raseiniai Municipality.
The monument will be sanctified by Archbishop of Kaunas Sigitas Tamkevičius, Minister R.Juknevičienė will deliver welcome address, soldiers will honour victims of resistance fights by cannon shots.
After sanctification Minister will take part in the feast of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Šiluva: the first day of the feast is hallowed to Lithuanian Armed Forces, riflemen and partisans.
