Russia hopes to hold consultations with the Georgian side over the Russian military bases stationed in Georgia “in the third decade of March,” Alexander Yakovenko, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman said on March 15.
“An agreement to resume Russo-Georgian negotiations over the problems related to the Russian military bases in Georgia was reached during the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Tbilisi in February, 2005. In frames [of this agreement] it is also considered to hold talks over the issue of setting up of Russian-Georgian anti-terrorist center on the basis of part of that infrastructure of the military base, which will be disbanded,” Alexander Yakovenko said.
