Published: 2 December 2010 y., Thursday

President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė attending OSCE Summit in Astana had a conversation with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. They discussed further cooperation between the two countries as Lithuania takes over OSCE Chairmanship from January next year.

“I and US Secretary of State covered a wide range of issues falling under OSCE responsibility and concrete ways to deal with such issues. Priorities of the Lithuanian Chairmanship will include solution of frozen conflicts, development of democracy, energy security and development of nuclear energy in Central and Eastern Europe. I underlined the need to ensure nuclear energy security in compliance with all international standards and European agreements when it comes to the construction of new nuclear power plants in any part of this European region, be it Belarus, Kaliningrad or Lithuania,” President Dalia Grybauskaitė said.

The President and the US Secretary of State also discussed the planned meeting of women world leaders due to take place next summer in Vilnius as part of the Forum of the Community of Democracies, which is also to be attended by Hillary Clinton.
