On 8-9 July in Genval, Belgium, Political Director of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eitvydas Bajarūnas took part in the consultations of political directors from foreign ministries of 27 European Union member states.
Every six months, such consultations are hosted by the country that takes over the EU Presidency.
Political directors exchanged opinions on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, relations with Russia and the role of the European Union in the world. Together with representatives from the U.S.A., political directors discussed the situation in the South Caucasus, the Middle East and Iran.
E.Bajarūnas presented Lithuania’s approach to the problems in the South Caucasus and welcomed the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the region. The Political Director of Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry stressed that the issues regarding the relations with Georgia and to the political situation in this country had to remain on the political agenda of the EU and the U.S.A.
