President Valdas Adamkus wished President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, re-elected for the second term of presidency, to continue the important and responsible duties of his office.

Mr. Adamkus expressed his firm belief that that the special relationship existing between Lithuania and Azerbaijan would be further promoted and that concerted efforts would make the bilateral dialogue even more intense and dynamic.

“I wish you further determination and resilience in strengthening Azerbaijan’s relations and cooperation with the European Union. I firmly believe that our partnership will grow and develop. Azerbaijan’s experience and its future prospects in the field of energy serve as a perfect foundation for this partnership,” Mr. Adamkus wrote in his letter of congratulations.

President Adamkus highlighted his confidence that through personal example, dedication and committed endeavors Mr. Aliyev would unite the people of Azerbaijan in advancing a common ultimate goal: continue implementing the necessary domestic reforms, create a prosperous and secure state, strengthen the dialogue with the international community, and carry through regional initiatives.
