President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus extended condolences to Australia’s Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce on the fire that has claimed hundreds of human lives and caused devastation to rural towns and huge areas of the unique landscape of Australia.

The leader of the country expressed, on behalf of the people of Lithuania, deep sympathy with the families of the victims and their beloved ones.

“Today our thoughts are with the Australian firefighters, rescue teams, and all those who are battling the fires, risking their lives to save others,” the President’s letter reads.
