President Valdas Adamkus sent a message of condolences to King Albert II of Belgium on the tragedy that happened at the creche in Dendermonde, extending sincere sympathy to the victims’ families and friends and to all those who were touched by this sad and painful incident.

“This meaningless act of aggression has once again reminded us of our duty to make a joint effort to reduce violence in modern society so that our children are safe at school, day-care centers, and streets and that our citizens feel less endangered and more secure.”

“I wish the people of Belgium fortitude in this time of immense sorrow,” Mr. Adamkus wrote in his message of condolences.
