President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus congratulated the former President of Finland Mr. Martti Ahtisaari on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for 2008.
The President said he was delighted that the continuous and passionate efforts of the Finnish President to establish peaceful coexistence among the nations and religious communities of the world had been recognized by a globally acclaimed award.
“This award once again reminds us of the conflicts still smoldering across the planet and of our joint responsibility to resolve them in the spirit of mutual understanding, respect and peace,” writes the President in his letter of congratulations.
President Adamkus expressed hope that the dedicated work of the former President of Finland in the name of peace across the world would become an example to be followed by the political leaders of today and tomorrow.
