President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė sent congratulations to Mr. José Manuel Barroso on his approval by the European Parliament as President of the European Commission.

“I am very pleased that by making this decision the European Parliament, just like the European Council in June of 2009, gave due credit to your work and efforts in leading the European Commission, particularly in the face of today's economic and financial downturn, as well as to your resolve to continue strengthening the European Union and to seek its leadership in the world,” the President writes in the congratulatory letter.

According the President, this step provides the opportunity to continue successful cooperation between Lithuania and the European Commission. “With the approaching term of Lithuania's EU Presidency in 2013, I hope that when preparing for and during the Presidency we will work closely and effectively together for the benefit of a strong and unified Europe,” President Dalia Grybauskaitė underlines in the letter.
