President congratulates Israel’s President on his anniversary

President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus congratulates President of the State of Israel Mr. Shimon Peres on the occasion of his eighty-fifth anniversary.

 In the letter of congratulations President Adamkus recalls his warm conversation with the President Peres during his visit to Israel. Lithuania‘s President underlines in the letter that Lithuania cherishes Lithuanian and Jewish common and rich history. “We all want the relations between our two nations to remain close and to become increasingly stronger,” Mr. Adamkus writes.

 According to the President, the contribution made by Lithuanian Jews to Lithuania‘s political, economic and cultural life will be reflected in the events and cultural projects to be organised to commemorate the Millennium of the First Mention of Lithuania in Written Sources. President Adamkus invites Israel’s President to visit Lithuania next year. “I am sure your visit would further strengthen our bilateral cooperation and mutual understanding,” the letter says.
