President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus sent congratulations on behalf of himself and the people of Lithuania to the President of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao and to the President of the Republic of Cyprus Dimitris Christofias on the national holidays of their countries.
In the letter of congratulations to the President of China, President Adamkus expresses hope that Lithuania and China will remain close partners, contributing to international efforts towards a more secure and stable world. “Today Lithuania and China are linked by ever close friendly political, economic and cultural ties. We are also united by our resolve to fight the global challenges of the 21st century: terrorism, intolerance, unsustainable development, climate change, and other,” writes the President of Lithuania.
President Adamkus also underlines that Lithuania’s membership in the European Union opens even more opportunities for the people of the two countries to develop business, scientific, academic, cultural, and other contacts. “I am confident that we will continue working closely together to make the best of the new opportunities and to strengthen by joint efforts the friendly links between our two nations,” writes the President.
Taking the opportunity, President Adamkus congratulates his Chinese counterpart on the exquisite organization of the 2008 Olympic Games: “It is a great achievement of China. I hope that the spirit of Olympic peace and mutual respect will accompany all the steps of the international community in the future.”
In the congratulatory letter to the President of Cyprus, Valdas Adamkus notes that Lithuania and Cyprus as members of an independent European family are linked by unbreakable ties of political, economic and cultural cooperation. In 2012 Cyprus will preside over the European Union, and the next year, in 2013, Lithuania will take over the EU presidency. “We are walking together on the path of building a strong Europe. Each year, Lithuania is visited by an increasing number of tourists from Cyprus, while trips to Cyprus are among the favorite journeys made by travelers from Lithuania,” writes President Adamkus.
The President also writes he believes that cooperation between the two countries will continue to be sincere and open and that they will together contribute to creating a peaceful, prosperous and energy secure international community. “I believe that we will continue working together, furthering the traditions of mutual trust and friendly relations and that we will bring the contacts between our citizens, businesses and politicians even closer together,” writes President Adamkus in his letter to the President of Cyprus.
In the congratulatory letters, Valdas Adamkus wishes every success to the leaders of China and Cyprus and long years of prosperity and well-being to the people of their countries.
