President to attend the anniversary NATO Summit

President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus and the accompanying delegation leaves for the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of France to attend the anniversary NATO Summit on 3-4 April.

To be held in Strasbourg (France) and Kehl (Germany), the Summit will be dedicated to discussions on the prospects of the Alliance, its goals and objectives, and NATO operations in Afghanistan; also, the Summit should confirm the Alliance's commitment to develop a new strategic concept for NATO by the next Summit.

The two-day meeting of NATO Heads of States/Governments will mark the 60th anniversary of the Alliance. This meeting will be the first one for Albania and Croatia as full members of the Alliance, and for France as a full member of the Alliance's military command. The event will be attended by the U.S. President Barack Obama.

On 3 April, Friday, Lithuania's leader will attend the working dinner for the Heads of States/Governments of the North Atlantic Council.

On 4 April, Saturday, the Heads of States/Governments will participate in the events dedicated to the Alliance's 60th anniversary, to be followed by a meeting of the North Atlantic Council, and a working lunch.

The same evening, President Adamkus will leave for Prague (Czech Republic) to attend the meeting of the EU Heads of States/Governments with the U.S. President Barack Obama on 5 April, Sunday. In the meeting, the Heads of States/Governments will discuss the global economic and financial situation, energy security, climate change, and international politics. Lithuania's President will join other leaders of the EU for lunch with President Obama.

The President comes back to Vilnius Sunday evening.
