Prime Minister to visit Helsinki

On Monday, October 27, Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas departs for Helsinki in order to attend an annual meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Nordic and Baltic States.

Such meetings involving eight Nordic and Baltic States (NB8), namely Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden, have been held regularly since 1992 serving as forums for discussing the news of international politics and various practical aspects of cooperation.

At the current NB8, Prime Ministers intend to discuss global economic situation, urgent issues of energy sector and the prospects of future cooperation within the Baltic Sea region. A discussion on the relations with Russia and Belarus is also expected.

Mr. Kirkilas will return to Vilnius on Tuesday, October 28. During the absence of the Prime Minister, Minister of Transport Algirdas Butkevičius will substitute for him.
