Raduev Seized With no Casualties

Published: 17 March 2000 y., Friday
"We took into account the fact that about 10,000 people used to be under the command of Raduyev, and he had about 100 bodyguards," Patrushev said. He pointed out that measures had been taken to reduce losses, and Raduyev had been captured "without losses and without a single shot." "If the media did not report on his detention, Raduyev_s bodyguards would have still been unaware of anything. Another three people were brought to Moscow along with Raduyev, including a financier, who worked not only for Raduyev_s band, but also for other illegal armed groups, the chief of Raduyev_s bodyguards and one of his closest assistants." According to Patrushev, Raduyev was captured in the Grozny area. Answering questions by RBC, the FSB director said, "all the leaders of bandit groups are to be detained, and one should seriously prepare for that." He also pointed out that at the moment of arrest Raduyev "was shocked, showed no resistance and did not want to say anything, but he is already being questioned now."
