State Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence Jurate Raguckiene will go on an official visit to Rome (Italy) to sign an international agreementon on behalf of the Government of Lithuania, September 3. The agreement will be made between Lithuanian and Italian Governments on bilateral protection of classified information.
The agreement is intended to strengthen bilateral cooperation and ensure protection of exchanged classified information. The agreement levels of secrecy, methods of protection, protection of information of classified contracts, and principles of cooperation among institutions.
The document also establishes procedure of transferring classified information, using and protecting it, and commitments and responsibility of both parties to the agreement in protection of classified information.
The agreement will come into force once it is approved by parliaments of both countries.
By now Lithuania has signed 13 international intergovernmental agreements, ten of them concerning protection of classified information with Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, the United Kingdom, Latvia, Sweden, the Ukraine, Germany, Poland, and Slovakia. The other three agreements are signed on protection of secret military information with the US, Poland and Romania.
