President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Vice President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China in Beijing.

President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Vice President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China in Beijing. The President and delegations of the two countries had a working meeting, in which they exchanged views about Lithuania's and China's economic situation and discussed bilateral relations and cooperation within the European Union.
 
The President expressed Lithuania's willingness to support a further cooperation between China and the European Union within the framework of multilateral relations.

Talking about the development of bilateral relations, the President underlined that wider economic and cultural relations with China, especially in developing concrete cooperation and investment projects, were beneficial for Lithuania.

“China has demonstrated that it is open for Lithuania, willing to cooperate and invest in Lithuania. Much will depend on us, on our preparedness for such cooperation. I and the Vice President talked about possibilities for establishing bilateral technology parks, also prospects for constructing a deep-sea port in Klaipėda, about transport and logistics centers, research and investment in alternative sources of energy. There is a wide scope for cooperation, both bilateral and multilateral, i.e. within the European Union. I hope Lithuania will be able to make use of all new opportunities of cooperation with this powerful state that is becoming increasingly important for Europe and the whole world,” President Dalia Grybauskaitė said after the meeting.

China's Vice President congratulated Lithuania for successful participation in the world exhibition, in which Lithuania's pavilion was visited by six million people. According to Xi Jinping, China highly appreciates Lithuania's role in the European Union in terms of developing dialogue with China. Assessing the outlook for bilateral relations, China's Vice President assured the President of Lithuania that Chinese administration would urge, at the highest level, Chinese companies and enterprises to invest in Lithuania.
