The President: New NATO strategic concept should strengthen the Alliance and ensure specific security guarantees

The President of the Republic of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaitė, met with the Commander of the US European Command and NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Admiral James G. Stavridis.

The head of the state and the NATO Supreme Commander discussed Lithuania's cooperation within NATO, military training, and cooperation in performing the international mission in Afghanistan and possible joint response to new challenges.

The President pointed out that NATO was the main guarantee of security in the Baltic States and the United States of America was the main security partner of Lithuania.

"It is very important that the NATO reform and the new strategic concept strengthen the Alliance and confirm specific security guarantees for Lithuania and all the allies," the President said.

Admiral James G. Stavridis conveyed the personal greetings of President Barack Obama to the Lithuanian President. According to the US President, Lithuania is one of the key US partners and allies, and the relations between the two countries are as good as never before.

The admiral thanked for Lithuania's significant contribution to both the military mission in Afghanistan and the implementation of development cooperation projects of importance to this country.
