As a response to the address made by representatives of Lithuania's culture community and civic society concerning the future of Kristijonas Donelaitis museum in Chistye Prudy in the Kaliningrad Oblast, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė sent a letter to President Dmitry Medvedev of the Russian Federation.

"Mr. President, given the significance that this museum has for Lithuania, its culture and history, and having in mind that the perpetuation of the memory of Donelaitis is important not only to the Lithuanian, but also to the Russian cultural heritage, I address you with a request to keep it in Russia's state ownership. I well understand that Lithuania is also responsible for the museum's future. Therefore I have asked the Lithuanian government to search for a possibility to contribute to its maintenance," President Dalia Grybauskaitė writes in the letter to the Russian President.
