Lietuvos Prezidentė Dalia Grybauskaitė
President Dalia Grybauskaitė sent congratulations on behalf of herself and the people of Lithuania to President Dmitry Medvedev of the Russian Federation on the Day of Russia.

“Twenty years ago, on June 12, Russia adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty establishing the fundamental principles of a modern, peaceful and democratic state: the rule of law, the equality of all citizens before the law, and the separation of powers. One year on, on June 12, the people of Russia elected, freely and democratically, the first president of their independent state,” the President wrote in her letter of congratulations.

According to the President, these events laid down a strong foundation not only for the internal development of Russia as a sovereign nation, but also set forth the guidelines for its relations with the neighboring states and the international community.

The President expressed her deep conviction that the achievement of the aspiration to live peacefully with all countries and nations, consolidated in the Declaration of June 12, is all important for building constructive and mutually beneficial relations between the states in today's world.

“It is my strong wish that in their pursuit of this aspiration Russia and Lithuania continue developing a relationship based on friendship, understanding and trust. I believe that our forthcoming meeting will contribute to achieving this goal,” the President wrote.
