President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite presented letters of credence to Dainius Junevičius as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
In the meeting, the President discussed with the Ambassador the relations between Lithuania and Egypt and underlined the importance of efficient provision of consular services to Lithuanian citizens. Currently, the Embassy in Egypt is the only Lithuanian embassy in Africa and Arab countries.
The President urged the Ambassador to focus more on the development of bilateral economic relations and on conclusion of agreements on economic cooperation. They also discussed possibilities for cooperation between Lithuania and regional organizations of Africa (the Arab League, the African Union).
The 52-year-old Ambassador started his diplomatic service in 1991. In 1992, he served as the first Lithuanian Ambassador to Poland since the restoration of Lithuania's independence.
Later, Dainius Junevičius held the position of the General Inspector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lithuania's ambassador to Greece, ambassador-at-large at the Information and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the chief of Lithuania's special mission in Afghanistan.
Dainius Junevičius holding the rank of an ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary is the second ambassador of Lithuania to Egypt since the establishment of the Embassy in Cairo in 2002.
