The State Visit to Latvia

The state visit of Uzbekistan’s President will last two days. During his stay in Latvia the head of Uzbekistan will have the talks with the President of the Latvian Republic Vayra Frike Freyberg, in the course of which it is planned to discuss the state and perspectives of the development of the bilateral relations, international problems of mutual interest. Besides, the signature of some bilateral documents is aslo fixed during the visit. The diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Latvia were established in October of 1992. The considerable stage in the development of the bilateral political relations became the official visit paid by the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Latvia in June of 1995. In the course of that visit the Treaty of friendship and cooperation between two countries, other interstate and interdepartmental agreements were signed. At present 29 documents make up the legal foundation of the Uzbek-Latvian cooperation. Another document – the Treaty of cooperation in struggle against organized crime, terrorism and drug trafficking was signed in 2002. All the mechanisms and instruments exist for dynamic development of bilateral relations between two countries. The Embassies of two countries are functioning in Tashkent and Riga.
