V. Chernomyrdin, former Russian prime minister and current presidential envoy for Yugoslavia, says that the replacement of Prime Minister Y. Primakov and the Cabinet of Ministers is unacceptable. "The government is being attacked from dawn to dusk. How can they work? A campaign against the government must not be waged," Chernomyrdin said. The anti-government campaign is hard to put up with, he said. He said that a Cabinet reshuffle is possible. Chernomyrdin hailed the appointment of S. Stepashin to the post of first deputy prime minister with retention of his duties as interior minister. "No gossip should be spread about this," Chernomyrdin said.
