The national consensus

Published: 22 August 2002 y., Thursday
Only some 3,6% of Belarusian nationals want their republic to become part of Russia. Such are the outcomes of the sociological research, mentioned in an interview to “Zvyazda” by the director of the Institute of social-political research of the presidential Administration of Belarus Evgeny Matusevich. According to him, the sociological researches, conducted in Belarus in late July this year, testify that around 35% of the country’s citizens uphold integration with Russia under the international union scenario that is as two independent states. Around 25% prefer the union of two states with restricted independence, while 23% insist on the common country. Pointing out the population’s moods and referring to the results of the sociological research, Evgeny Matusevich stressed that the “population of Belarus is moving closer to the national consensus”.
