Defense Minister Margus Hanson visited the headquarters of NATO Multinational Corps Northeast based in Szczecin, Poland; in future, Estonia’s units may be subordinated to the corps.
In a meeting with the commander of the corps, Lt. Gen. Zygmunt Sadowski, and other officers Hanson was given an overview of the structure and duties of the staff. The parties talked also about future cooperation of Estonia’s Defense Forces and the corps, said a representative of Corps Northeast.
Corps Northeast that consists of German, Danish and Polish units was formed in 1999 after Poland's accession to the alliance.
Cooperation of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with the corps was at the top of the agenda of a recent meeting of the defense ministers of three countries with their German, Danish and Polish colleagues in Copenhagen
