On the last day of his working visit to the Worl Economic Forum gathering in Davos, President Valdas Adamkus met with Thomas Mirow, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Among the issues discussed at the meeting was the EU economic recovery plan proposed by the European Commission, the situation in the banking sector, and lending to business.
Mr. Thomas Mirow said that the EBRD was ready to make adjustements to its project funding based on Lithuania’s specific needs. He told President Adamkus that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, after evaluating the changes in Lithuania’s economy, extended the timeframe for cooperation with Lithuania until 2010.
Energy conservation and efficiency are listed as the Bank’s priority funding targets. The EBRD also finances small- and medium-sized business projects in Lithuania.
Yesterday Dr. Klaus Schwab, Founder of the World Economic Form, presented President Adamkus with a WEF award for long-time cooperation with and merits to the World Economic Forum.
President Valdas Adamkus has ended his visit in Switzerland and is expected to return to Vilnius today evening.
