Valdas Adamkus congratulated the President of South Africa on inauguration

President Valdas Adamkus extended congratulations on behalf of himself and the people of Lithuania to President Jacob Zuma of South Africa on the occasion of his inauguration and wished him every success in discharging the important duties of the presidential office.

President Adamkus expressed his confidence that through his personal example, commitment and dedicated work Mr. Zuma would unite the people of South Africa for the common cause of building a prosperous, secure and open state.

"Since the very establishment of their diplomatic relations, Lithuania and the Republic of South Africa have been linked by cooperation ties based on shared values and interests. I sincerely believe that our two nations will avail themselves of all opportunities to further strengthen their political, economic and cultural contacts, and that they will continue their successful cooperation within international organizations, working together towards expanding the space of peace and security in the world," wrote Mr. Adamkus in his message of congratulations.

President Adamkus underlined that an exchange of the highest-level visits would promote even more intense contacts between the two countries and their societies and help launch bilateral and multilateral projects and initiatives.
