Impressions from “Light + Building 2012”

An international exhibition “Light + Building 2012”, which introduced many new visualization and design, accounting and equipment integration solutions for smart building systems, ended in Frankfurt am Main (Germany).

According to Vaidotas Bijūnas, Manager of Intellectual Buildings Projects Department of “Penki kontinentai”, who attended the exhibition, the main topics of this year’s “Light + Building 2012” were both new intelligent building solutions and renewable energy and its use.

“I took interest in the scale of wind and solar energy use in “intelligent” buildings” said V. Bijūnas. “In the exhibition, we had a look at the “Smart Grid” – an “intelligent” power supply, allowing people to use autonomously produced electricity as well as sell it”. A building owner who has solar panels or small wind turbine can simply sell electricity produced by him, because energy produced by the alternative means is purchased at a higher price than usual. And if the price goes down and it is not worth selling energy produced by solar panels or wind turbine, it can be used for one’s own needs: recharge electric car batteries or reserve batteries of a building, heat the water, etc. “Smart Metering”, a system of “intelligent” accounting, “decides” when to sell the energy produced, and when to use it for its own needs, i.e. the owner of the house does not need to monitor the fluctuation of energy purchase prices.

There was an opportunity to have a look at other innovations of “Smart Buildings” system at the exhibition “Light + Building 2012”, where a long-standing partner of the group of companies “Penki kontinentai”, a company JUNG, celebrated its 100th anniversary.

“We saw a mirror which functions as a touch screen and by means of which all building systems are operated”, said V. Bijūnas. “We also saw a smartphone which can turn on a washing machine, etc.”

KNS Association, a partner of the group of companies “Penki kontinentai”, introduced exclusive “Smart Office” solutions designed for the industry, that pay off over one and a half years.

“Furthermore, we have evaluated the potential to control “Smart Buildings” systems by voice – we are planning to try it soon in Lithuania and to offer it to our clients”, promises V. Bijūnas. “We can gladden those who like exceptional luxury, because these “intelligent” systems will soon be applied not only in homes and offices, but in yachts or boats as well. We have already seen it in Frankfurt am Main”.
