Students and Entrepreneurs Meet at VGTU Career Days

Published: 9 March 2015 y., Monday

Throughout March and April, the anniversary Career Days are humming at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) for the tenth time. Not only the university community, but also business representatives take an active part in this event.

According to Alfonsas Daniūnas, the Rector of VGTU, such career events are first steps of students on the road to successful career. „As the economy of Lithuania is growing, the need for still more representatives of physical, technological sciences and managers is increasing; however, a marketable profession alone will not be sufficient to find a job. It is possible to gain work experience already while studying at university, and during career events young people are taught to properly present themselves, they get acquainted with potential employees,” says Alfonsas Daniūnas.

“Penki kontinentai” group of companies, one of the general sponsors of this event, is also busy with preparation for the career contact fair, which will take place on the 19th of March at the VGTU. According to Anželika Daujotienė, Head of the Human Resources Department, not only professional knowledge is essential for the pursuit of successful career, but also proactiveness and inquisitiveness of a person plays a major role. “Profound knowledge of your area is not the only thing that paves the way for successful career. Personal initiative, enthusiasm, positivity, willpower, desire to achieve still more each day and active participation in social activities are of crucial importance. The market nowadays opens up a lot of possibilities. The earlier a person starts taking interest in actual work, the higher probability to achieve success and to find one’s own place,” claims Anželika Daujotienė.

According to the Head of the Human Resources, participation in the events of the Career Days offers companies possibility to introduce their business, to provide full details about their products and services, familiarises others with the company’s culture and traditions, working conditions and requirements for employees. It also offers a chance to contribute to the country’s social projects targeted at self-improvement, promotion of employment and entrepreneurship. “Young specialists who have just finished their studies often lack knowledge about Lithuanian companies, their activities, achievements, conditions created for promising professionals. Possibly, it is one of the reasons why young people choose work abroad instead of building a successful career in their own country. Therefore, such joint gatherings of business and university communities is an opportunity to know Lithuanian business better, to understand market trends and employers’ expectations and to establish useful contacts,” says Anželika Daujotienė.

“Penki kontinentai” group of companies regularly participates in different educational projects: delivers lectures at universities, arranges student excursions, creates conditions for learners to do a placement and supports other educational initiatives.
