Euro Faculty Inaugurated at Kaliningrad State University

Published: 25 September 2000 y., Monday
Wednesday this week, the State University of Kaliningrad got its own EuroFaculty. New subjects such as marketing, environmental and private law will there be introduced to the university. The faculty is also meant to add new thoughts on teaching, methods, as well as adding new content to educations. Kaliningrad State University is the fourth university in the Baltic Sea Region to open such a faculty, after the universities of Riga, Vilnius and Tartu. Donors are Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany. Poland, Lithuania and Great Britain are supporting the project. Lithuanian government, for example, has allocated about 62, 500 US dollars for the project. The establishment of the faculty is an initiative of the CBSS, aiming at integrating the university in the common European education system, Baltic News Service writes in a telegram about the event. A force of attraction -Establishing universities and creating faculties are signs of upturn and optimism, Dr. Hans-Jürgen Heimsoeth from the German Ministry of Foreign affairs said, when he, on behalf of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS), inaugurated the Faculty. -Universities exert a force of attraction, he said. But he also emphasised that the difficulties facing Kaliningrad are not to be underestimated. However, the new EuroFaculty should be a form of “help towards self-help”.
