ATMIA conference in Vilnius

Published: 17 June 2004 y., Thursday

The first ATMIA conference in Eastern and Central Europe will be handled in Vilnius on the 9-10 of September, 2004.

ATMIA (Asynchronous Transfer Mode Industry Association) will organize the conference, the sponsor of which is the company “Penkiø kontinentø bankinës technologijos“ (“Penki Kontinentai Banking Technologies”) BS/2 – a member of the directorate of ATMIA from June. Specialists from different countries of the world will read reports about new technologies on banking systems, analyze the questions of safety and other problems relevant to Central and Eastern Europe.

Eastern Europe – the world fastest dilative market on the technologies of banking service equipment and bank charge cards. This region’s population is more than 200 millions residents. A quickly expanded industry of banking technologies gives great opportunities to the companies able to designate the needs of the market and to find a way to satisfy them. ATM is the only transfer mode industry association, which provides all kinds of service on ATM at the international market.

ATMIA is the association created to forward an expansion of the automated teller machines. ATMIA industry association was established in 1997 in USA. Today the branches of ATM are located in North America, Europe, Australia, South-East Asia, Africa. There are producers and distributors of ATM, financial organizations, individuals, service and consulting institutions between the ATMIA members.

JSC “Penkiø kontinentø bankinës technologijos“ (“Penki Kontinentai Banking Technologies”) BS/2 is a secondary company of the “Penki kontinentai”, which was established in 2001 after the department of banking technologies was expanded. A successful six years experience stimulated the establishment of a separate modern and dynamic company, which will work well in Lithuania and at the foreign markets.

The total benefit for last year of the company group is 80,2 millions litas (without value added tax – VAT). The company exports its products and services to 34 countries worldwide, takes part in the popular IT exhibitions, one of them is the prestigious IT exhibition “CeBIT“.

Eastern Europe countries-candidates to EU differ from EU countries-members in the volume and working of banking systems. Many financial institutions deal in stock at the region, perform the banks in between operations. They do not match a conception of the “western” bank.

Hungary is the first country which outlives an intermediate period in economics and implements reforms of the banking system. There was a monobanking system in Hungary such as it was in other Eastern counties. The government proposed to change the nonqualified actives to stock of the government’s debt and to resolve the problems of delayed payments in

Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

The banks of the Baltic States couldn’t trust the funds of the saving-banks because of their unstable position – after the USSR broke up the Savings-bank of Moscow (the direct heir of USSR Saving-bank) didn’t manage to re-erect the local savings-banks. The same situation was in Slovenia. There were many banks in Czechia, Slovakia and Slovenia during the intermediate period in 2001. On the other hand, smaller numbers of banks were in Lithuania, Romania and Bulgaria. Besides, the numbers of the banks decreased only in Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia at this period.

Deposit formation intensity also depends on the country – Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia apply Holland banking system model. According to it preference is given to the banks in between markets. The banking systems of Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania are close to the German and Greek systems, where attention is given to clients’ deposits.
