The US Embassy in Riyadh has asked thousands of Americans living and working in the Kingdom to limit their movement to avert possible retaliatory actions following the launch of air strikes on Afghanistan.
A new recorded security advisory said yesterday that following the air strikes on Afghanistan, US citizens and interests could become targets for retaliation.
The attacks "may result in strong anti-American sentiments and retaliatory actions against US citizens and interests throughout the world by terrorists" and their sympathizers, the advisory said.
"Americans are urged to monitor the local news, contact the embassy or consulates and limit their movement," it added. The warning came after Osama Bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda network issued a threat Saturday night on Al-Jazeera television.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy issued an advisory to some 850,000 Filipinos living in the Kingdom telling them to stay away from places where Westerners frequent. They have also been told not to wear T-shirts carrying pro-American messages such as "I Love USA" and to remove similar stickers from their cars.
