British citizen arrested for organizing terrorist acts in Chechnya and Afghanistan

The man reportedly used websites and emails for his subversive activities
As a result of a series of searches in the south-west of London, a 30-year-old British citizen named as Babar Ahmad was arrested on Thursday. The man is suspected of collecting funds for the organization of terrorist acts in Chechnya and Afghanistan. A Scotland Yard spokesperson said the individual was arrested on the base of a warrant issued by the prosecutor of the US State of Connecticut.
An official statement from the London police runs, Ahmad collected funds in the USA with the help of websites and emails from 1998 to 2003 to conduct "terrorist acts in Chechnya and Afghanistan." The money was reportedly meant for terrorist purposes, which included violence against people, damage to property, assassinations to reach political, religious and ideological goals."
A London court is currently pending Babar Ahmad's case about his extradition to the USA. A source in the law-enforcement authorities told reporters Ahmad's arrest was not connected with the previous detention of 12 people, also suspected of terrorist activities, Itar-Tass reports.
