Only 42 percent of Poland_s largely Catholic population supports a planned law to ban all forms of pornography in the country, according to an opinion poll published Wednesday.

A larger proportion, 48 percent, openly oppose the plan while 10 percent have no opinion, the poll conducted by the Demoskop institute showed.More alarming for proponents of the anti-porn law were figures showing that 72 percent of Poles think all adults should have free access to erotic videos, magazines and other articles, with only 17 percent opposed, according to the same poll.The proposed law must be signed by president Aleksander Kwasniewski before being added to the statute books.The president is expected to settle the question by Monday.
