Portugal, Croatia Win Euro 2004 Warmups

Portugal and Croatia got easy wins Saturday night as they prepared for next month's European Championship, while the Netherlands and Greece lost just two weeks before the start of the tournament. Luis Figo, Nuno Gomes and Rui Costa scored as Portugal beat visiting Luxembourg 3-0 at Agueda. Ivica Olic scored as Croatia defeating visiting Slovakia 1-0 at Rijeka. At Eindhoven, Bart Goor converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute to lead visiting Belgium over the Netherlands 1-0. The penalty was awarded after Dutch defender Wilfred Bouma fouled midfielder Mbo Mpenza. Poland beat visiting Greece 1-0 in Szczecin as defender Mihalis Kapsis put the ball into his own goal in the 16th minute. In London, Bartholomew Ogbeche scored two goals and Obafemi Martins had another to lead Nigeria over Ireland 3-0 in the Unity Cup. Nigeria opens its World Cup qualifying campaign at home next Saturday against Rwanda. In Paris, Babacar Gueye scored the tying goal in the 85th minute for Senegal, which drew 1-1 with Guinea. Kaba Diawara had scored on a penalty kick the 24th.
