Rejuvenated striker leads Germany against Lithuania

Published: 29 March 2003 y., Saturday
"Miro has gotten back to his World Cup form," Voeller said of the forward who scored five goals in Japan and South Korea. Voeller hopes the 24-year-old Klose, known for his explosiveness in the air, can continue his recent hot streak and pad his total of 14 goals in 25 caps for Germany. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, Germany's biggest sides, just hope Klose will sign for next season. Juventus , according to Italian newspapers, also wants him. Klose isn't the only forward on Germany making news as Voeller's team tries to build on its good start in its Euro 2004 qualifying group. Germany boasts six points in two matches, Scotland has four and Faroe Islands two. Highly touted Kevin Kuranyi will also be making his debut, although he won't start. On the bench is another promising 21-year-old, 1860 Munich's Benjamin Lauth, known as Benny Bomber. Voeller admits, planned or not, the Lithuania match marks a generation change, and for the first time in years the Germans boast a wealth of striker talent.
