Swimmers coached via Internet

Published: 21 April 1999 y., Wednesday
Former New Zealand swimming champion and international athlete Haydn Woolley plans to help Americans to win triathlons by giving them one-to-one coaching on the Internet. Swimming is the first event in a triathlon and followed by cycling and then running. "No one on the Internet is offering a swim coaching service marketed primarily at triathletes," says Mr Woolley, the holder of two national swimming titles. He was also once widely regarded as the second fastest triathlete swimmer in the world. His Web site is called FutureDreams, and he plans to develop it as a triathlon sports information resource. A page, for instance, will provide links to other Web sites of particular interest to triathletes. Mr Woolley says he is aiming at the market in the United States because it is regarded as the birthplace of the triathlon sport, and a huge number of "Internet-conversant" people live there. He says when an athlete registers at the FutureDreams site he will be asked to answer a series of questions about his training, fitness, and other related matters. The information will enable him to create a detail profile of the applicant_s needs and help in the development of a personal development programme. Regular feedback from the athlete will enable Mr Woolley to monitor his progress.
