Israel's release of 224 prisoners is meant as a goodwill gesture to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who is seeking peace with the Jewish state.
None of the prisoners slated for release have blood on their hands or belong to Islamist groups, like Hamas which is sworn to Israel's destruction.
