Pope Benedict XVI opens a major Vatican meeting and urges man not to brush God aside by declaring himself master of the world. The 81-year-old pontiff made his comments in the homily of a mass opening a key meeting of 253 bishops, known as a synod. Pope Benedict decried a society devoid of faith at the start of a major meeting of bishops from across the world.
